Remember remember..

I’m off to see some fireworks tonight. I know. It's not the 5th yet, but I have to try and squeeze this yearly event into my hectic social schedule somehow. Ahem!

Sooo. Bonfire night. Yep. It's that time of year when people stand outside in the freezing cold, staring gormlessly up into the sky, watching the (often disappointing) explosive display of CRACKLE’s, KAPOWW’s and if you're lucky.. some BOOOOM’s (usually saved til the end... The end that comes far too soon and leaves you expecting another bigger boom)... Not to mention all the noises the firework-watchers make! Expect to hear lots of "ahhhhhhhhhh"s, "Wooooo"s, "i like them ones... the glittery ones", "look at that, [insert kids names]" and "that’s clever.. those colours".

I have also noticed that alongside Tubular Bells, the night is fraught with classical music. Tchaikovsky (his 1812 overture) and Handel are played more on this night than any other. I’m sure it's generally one of the few times of the year that us, the captive firework-watchers, has such music pumped into our ears - and actually don’t mind! The only other time that happens is when you're playing with your knob. On your radio! Trying to tune into Kiss 100FM and you accidentally slip into Classic FM.. then decide to leave it on there for a bit - to make you feel a bit more “cultural”.

But it's not only us that go a bit odd around this date.. all around us - animals go absolutely mental. I’m sure this weekend will see many a pet owner trying to coax their little doggy or pussy from under the sofa, showing it love and compassion, despite wanting to kill it for doing a whoopsie on their cream rug. Also, don’t forget, when at the arranged events, look out for trained pyromaniac hedgehogs running from the massive heap of burning rubbish, spikes alight. That’s always a winner with the kids.

Anyway.. all that said. I do LOVE bonfire night. I love all that stuff. Gimme some fingerless gloves, a sparkler, a runny nose and a bit of smoke in my eyes and I’m sorted for the weekend. BRING IT ON!! Booooooom...

Weird Beard Been Sheared
Tuesday, November 01, 2005

So. I gave in! Gave in to the mass complaints from family and friends, that I have been aged.. that I look strange.. even that I look like I have strayed from my deep heterosexual roots! The cheek of it all. Well.. now I am back to where it all began. A nice neat thing. A tidy-beard if you will. And the reason for the dancing bear? None. I just liked it! Ive got to have something my own way this week! Pleeasseee...
